About Us
The Tamworth Dog & Cat Refuge is a non-profit organization run Jean Medlock and a highly dedicated group of volunteers that rescues abandoned or displaced dogs and cats from the threat of euthanasia by the pound or other at-risk situations. Once in our care, these cats and dogs are housed in a comfortable and happy environment until a loving home can be found for them.
All animals that leave our shelter are vaccinated and de-sexed. We also provide care for those animals who need additional time and medical care before going to a new home.
The Tamworth Dog and Cat Refuge takes special care in matching the dogs and cats with their new human carers. We specialise in family pets so only 'rescue' those animals that are suitable to be housed in a family environment. The personality of the dogs and cats in our care become clear to us during their stay so we are usually able to accurately match a cat or dog with a family. We may occasionally rehouse working dogs however this is usually rare.
While awaiting placement in permanent, loving homes, these animals stay either at our boarding facility in Moonbi.
Each weekend, we open our doors to anyone wishing to adopt a cat or dog. Opening hours are 10 - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Our volunteers interview and educate prospective adopters on the importance of proper pet care, nutrition, exercise, and obedience training to ensure a successful adoption for everyone involved.
